Considering Disability is steered by a team of academics who guide our vision, progress, and publication. Dr. Tom Shakespeare is someone who adds value to our work, publications and our operations.
Tom Shakespeare trained in sociology at Cambridge, and has researched and taught at the Universities of Cambridge, Sunderland, Leeds, and Newcastle. He is currently senior lecturer in medical sociology at the University of East Anglia Medical School. His research interests center on disability studies and bioethics. His books include The Sexual Politics of Disability (1996), Genetic Politics (2002) and Disability Rights and Wrongs (2006). From 2008-2013, he was part of the Department of Violence and Injury Prevention and Disability at the World Health Organization, Geneva, where he helped write and edit the World Report on Disability (WHO 2011). He has been involved in the disability movement for 25 years.
